Prostitution has been around the Bronx for many years and especially in Hunts Point. During the 1970s which was the time when the “Bronx is burning” many neighborhoods fell into disrepair and the buildings were used for prostitution and to sale illegal drugs. In the Bronx 50% of the
population lives below the poverty line. Probably making prostitution one of the reasons to work for money. Many prostitutes use the money they get to feed their families, but the majority of prostitutes use the money to by drugs. There are reports, which show that these ladies just work to satisfy their addiction and to feed themselves, which is really sad. The majority of them live on the street with other prostitutes. The most commonly seen prostitutes are African-Americans, White Americans, and Latinas.
Now there is a community known as the Point Community Development who has taken over and tried to change everything around. Even with this the Bronx still has the largest number of known public street locations for prostitution and according to statistics they have the lowest number of arrest for this crime. Although the law is working hard to prevent this from happening. Now the police are going under cover to arrest any men who pay a prostitute. Now we can say that there is not as much prostitution as there was in the 1990s.
