In this intersession students study the development and socio-cultural context of hip-hop culture though the lens of the South Bronx. Students spend a week on campus researching hip-hop elements, and urban decline and revitalization. They then spend a week in residence at The Point, a Community Development Corporation in Hunts Point (South Bronx). Here they learn about and act as volunteers/participants in the wide array of community activities offered by this pioneering institution, visit museums and relevant historic sites, and take lessons in the cultural forms that incubated the development of hip-hop.
