Interview with A.C.T.I.O.N. member

Teresa is a Puerto Rican, sophomore student in high school that lives half an hour away from the Bronx, but that is very active in the community. She has been a part of The Point since she was 5 years old alongside her mother who was one of the funders, and her 22-year-old sister that also became a consistent attendant. She has participated in the after school programs, sleep away camps, and most recently, the program for high school students named A.C.T.I.O.N. which stands for Activists Coming To Inform Our Neighborhood. This program focuses on environmental justice, and various activities involving the community to benefit the community. Although the students get paid every two weeks, their involvement is basically volunteer work because they are enthusiastically doing tremendous amounts of community service in order to improve the city. Teresa plans to remain a part of A.C.T.I.O.N.S. until she graduates, and sees herself returning to the point to help out in the after school program. Although she is a young activist she is still exactly alike any of us, constantly texting and can’t be found without her ipod. “Music is a big part of my life.” were her exact words. She would really love for us to return to the point and learn more into depth about the south Bronx.
